How it is inherited
As stated earlier, color blindness is inherited through the X chromosome. Within a X-linked inheritance, the mutated gene carried by the mother will transmit the gene to 50% of her children. The person involved with the sharing of the mutated gene is known as the "carrier". If the X-linked carrier is the mother, and the father is not affected, there will be a:
- 1 in 2 chance that a son will have color blindness
- 1 in 2 chance that a daughter will become a carrier of color blindness
- No possibility that a daughter will have colorblindness
